Half a Century of Engineering Innovation

PJ Wright & Associates was founded in 1974 by Philip James Wright, a visionary engineer who saw the potential for specialised hydraulic solutions in Australia's growing construction industry.

Starting with just a drafting table and $5,000 in savings, Phil focused on solving complex water management challenges that larger firms overlooked. His commitment to precision and innovation quickly earned the trust of local builders.

Our Journey Through Time

From our humble beginnings to becoming industry leaders, these milestones define our legacy

1974-1976

The Beginning

In the Early years, PHILIP J. WRIGHT worked to establish 'PJ Wright & Associates(PJWAA)' and soon obtained recognition from architects, developers, and builders.

This led to PJWAA undertaking larger, more complex projects soon, such as Aged care villages, Hotels, Medical centres, and Schools.

Projects during the formative years were:

York Street homes units

Loretto Convent

Mead Streets Shops, Kalamunda

1977-1978

Initial Major Infrastructure Projects

Kununurra Senior High School.

MT Claremont Lodge.

The Park Towers Hotel refurbishment.

1980-1985

Growth And Success

The early 80s were a period of growth in Western Australia.

PJWAA excelled during these five years with many major long-time projects being undertaken soon as:

Expansion of EL Cabalo Blanco Resort

WACA ground development

WACA Southern Stand Development

Busselton Catholic Primary School Stage 1-4

1986-1992

Domestic and International Growth

The later years of the 80's saw stable growth at PJWAA, as increased staff brought a vast knowledge and engineering skills to the company.

The projects undertaken also diversified, with several overseas projects being designed in the office.

The diverse nature of projects provides experience in many specialist fields such as Wastewater management, Sub-divisional Services and Water Treatment.

Major Projects during this period were:

Feed Lot and Abattoir (Indonesia)

Old Swan Brewery Redevelopment.

Gosh Tannery Hamilton Hill

Philip J. Wright(MD) Founder

1993-1995

Forward Planning

During the mid to late 90s, PJWAA undertook numerous 'Educational projects' that required master planning to allow for stage redevelopment.

Expansion and repurposing of "Aged" school infrastructure was a PJWAA speciality utilising our experience from major redevelopment projects such as the WACA ground redevelopment.

Major Projects during this period were:

  • Infant Jesus Primary School
  • John Septimus Roe Community School
  • Fisheries building Adelaide terrace
  • Osborne Park library
  • St. Josephs Busselton
  • Kalgoorlie Catholic School (St. Mary's)
1996

Founding of AHSCA WA Chapter

In 1996, the Western Australian chapter of the Australian Hydraulic Services Consultants Association (AHSCA) was founded by a group of senior hydraulic consultants.

This founding group included Philip J. Wright and Anthony R. Serek, along with other industry professionals who recognised the need for a unified body to support, guide, and raise standards within the hydraulic services engineering field in WA.

The formal launch took place, marking the beginning of a dedicated organisation focused on professional development, industry collaboration, and advocacy for high-quality hydraulic design practices across Western Australia.

1997-2004

Contribution in Water infrastructure projects

Over the next 8 years, PJWAA undertook projects that required specific civil design skills that had been developed over the previous decades.

PJWAA have extensive experience and knowledge that forms the basis for this "niche" professional services.

During these years, PJWAA were extensively involved in the stimulus packages provided for educational growth in WA

PJWAA undertook projects for the Department of Education as well as the Catholic Education Office.

A total of 10 government schools and 27 private schools were completed by PJWAA during this tenure.
